A screenplay is exactly what it sounds like -- a play that you put on tape (or film) to show on a television (or movie) screen.
Ask mom or dad for the use of a video camera and be your own HollyWood director.
You can put it all on film or only an Act or two. It's up to you.
Read through the screenplay, print it out and create your own magic.
Be creative with the settings (where the story takes place). It can be taped in a yard or in a living room.
Costumes can be elaborate or simple.
When you are finished taping, send us a copy. We'd love to see what you've done.

"WELCOME TO HOLLY "WOOD" GROVE" ACT
ONE Scene
1 EXT. HOLLY "WOOD" GROVE - DAYTIME Holly "Wood" Grove is nestled deep within the Forest of Hope. It is a magical place were trees are lush, the flora and fauna are alive and blooming, and animals can speak. A colorfully, carved wooden sign, reading "Holly "Wood" Grove" marks the entrance into this enchanted land. Houses and businesses line the dirt path. Some houses are hutlike, built from flowers and leaves and sticks, some are within giant flowers and some are inside grand trees. Suzy LION is walking with determination through the forest. She is carrying a designer suitcase. She approaches the "Holly "Wood" Grove" sign and stops for a moment, admiring it. A grin broadens across her lips and grows to light her face. EXT. HOLLY "WOOD" AND VINE - SAME The streets are bustling. "Holly "Wood" Grove" is the hub-bub of forest entertainment. Forest animals of all types are eating at ROGER'S, a street-side cafe attached to a mushroom interior restaurant. Various other shops and businesses line the street. Suzy, confidently struts down the street. Even amidst the forest glitter, Suzy turns heads. EXT. RIVER OF DREAMS - SAME DENNY, a human boy, age 9-11, and AMY, a human girl, age 9-11, are floating down the River of Dreams heading through the Forest of Hope towards "Holly "Wood" Grove. They are splashing and laughing as they ride the rolling rapids. EXT.
RIVERVIEW HEIGHTS - SAME Riverview Heights is the exclusive "gated" community within "Holly "Wood" Grove. The gates are flourishing flowers, wrapped around the velvet vines of the prettiest trees in the entire forest. It sits along the shores of the "River of Dreams". Suzy
pauses outside the gates. For
the first time it appears that her confidence might not be as strong
as it originally appeared. Suzy
takes a deep breath, throws her head back and walks through the gates. There
is no real difference in the forest "city" within the gates
and that of the outside. Suzy So this is Riverview Heights. Looks just like the rest of "Holly "Wood" Grove". BEEPER (OFF) Careful who hears you say that. Suzy looks around but does not see anything. Suzy Who's there? A colorful bird swoops down, buzzing Suzy's hair. Suzy ducks. The bird lands on a branch eye level to Suzy. BEEPER Beeper the blue eyed birdy... At your service. Who are you? SUZY Suzy Lion. BEEPER You're new to these parts. What are you doing in Riverview? SUZY I'm here on business. BEEPER You're not a lamb. Suzy So? BEEPER
And you don't look human. Suzy looks at Beeper for a moment before she answers. Suzy I'm here to meet with Kyle Lamb. BEEPER looks stunned, sizes her up and down, circles her once then lands back on his branch. BEEPER You have an appointment? Suzy
You his secretary? BEEPER Do I look like a secretary? Suzy No, I just...do you know where I can find him? BEEPER End of the path, down by the river. Beeper flutters off, stops short and turns back. BEEPER (CON'T) Let me give you a little advise...beware of lambs in lambs clothing. Suzy Wait...what do you mean? Beeper flies off. Suzy What a strange bird. Beware of lambs in lambs clothing. What kind of thing is that to say to a future star. ACT
ONE Scene
2 EXT.
RIVER OF DREAMS - SAME On the shore of the river, near Kyle's office Denny and Amy dock their raft. DENNY
Here we are! AMY Wooly World U.S.A.! DENNY Amy! I can't believe you said that. AMY What Denny? It's true. DENNY It's not what you said-- it's the way you said it. Amy pauses. AMY Whatever. I just hope he sees us. DENNY
He'll see us. AMY Don't be so sure. I heard it's nearly impossible to get an appointment with
him--even if you're a lamb. DENNY But not if you're human. Everyone knows that Kyle the Lamb thinks humanness is next to perfectness and perfectness is a ticket inside. AMY But that's not right. DENNY It's the way it is Amy and who are we to change it?
EXT. OUTSIDE Kyle'S OFFICE - A LITTLE LATER Suzy
is outside of an office built into the side the bank of the river.
Kyle LAMB is sitting at his desk, looking out of the window,
taking expressively on the phone. Suzy Well, here I am. Pause. Suzy (CON'T) If you want it to happen Suzy Lion...
you have to make it happen. Suzy catches his eye, smiles brightly and waves. Kyle looks right through her. Suzy
tries again but to no avail. Suzy
sighs, puts her suitcase down and breaks into song. Suzy (SINGING) I
wanna be a star And
he can make it happen. I

he's the door to open. I
could be a star If
he'd just look at me. I've
got beauty and brains And
a perfect smile. I'm

moment to make this my home. Suzy tentatively enters the reception area of the office.
INT. Kyle'S OFFICE, RECEPTION AREA - CONTINUOUS Suzy's
voice is considerably lower. I

he can make it happen. I

he's the door to open. I
could be a star If he'd just look at me. Kyle busts out of his office door, cell phone in hand, he motions for a young lamb, MICK. Kyle (TO MICK) Get me Kramer. Mick frantically dials the phone at his desk. Suzy (BACK TO PHONE.) You need a what? It can't be done...(Pause) If I say it can't...it can't. Suzy clears her throat, takes a deep breath, and stands directly in front of Kyle. Suzy Excuse me sir. Kyle brushes past her. Suzy Pardon me. Kyle motions for her to sit and wait. Kyle You're questioning me? Suzy A minute of your time is all I need. Kyle (SING SONG) How tall you say? And hair and eyes? Kyle's
eyes spark attention and he begins to check Suzy out. Suzy preens. Suzy (SINGING) Am I a fit? I'll shrink- I'll grow-to any size.
Kyle turns back around. Kyle (SINGING) You need a broad. That's what you need. A real chick.
Suzy gets up. Suzy Well...I never. Suzy begins walking away. Kyle Wait a sec. I think... maybe...maybe. I'll call you right back. Kyle hangs up the phone and snatches the head shot she is holding from her. Kyle (CON'T) Can you dance? Suzy pretends she does not hear. Kyle You...with the legs...can you dance? Suzy stops, almost indignant. Denny and Amy's heads poke through the window. They are watching from outside. EXT. OUTSIDE Kyle'S OFFICE BUILDING - CONTINUOUS Denny and Amy duck into the bushes below and whisper. AMY Wow...it's really him. DENNY Scary huh? AMY Not a very nice man. DENNY He's Kyle the Lion...starmaker... he doesn't have to be nice. AMY Everybody should be nice. DENNY Yeah, but he doesn't have to. BACK TO SCENE: Kyle continues to check Suzy out. Kyle (CON'T) Can you dance? Suzy is taken aback. Suzy Excuse me? Kyle Do those gorgeous legs do anything other than walk away? Denny and Amy enter the office. Nobody even looks at them. Suzy I dance...a little. My specialty is singing but I act too. (Pause) I can also balance a bowl of fruit on my head. Kyle Handy talent. Suzy In some parts of the world it is. Kyle puts the picture down. Kyle Ahhh, it'd never work anyway. Suzy drops her attitude as Kyle looses interest. Suzy What'll never work? Kyle You (Pause) and this part. Suzy I'm an actress. It's my job to make anything work. Kyle Not this time. Sorry Miss Lion. Suzy Call me Suzy (pause) and give me a chance. You won't be sorry. Kyle Thank you for your time. Suzy Tell me what's wrong and I'll fix it.

Lions and lambs are equal Uninterested, Kyle begins to walk back into his office. Suzy (SINGING)

'Cause one day you'll surely be sorry That you missed out on my big ride to fame. Suzy huffs out. Mick is talking on the phone. Mick covers the receiver. Kyle finally notices Denny and Amy. Kyle It's not my fault! You understand... right? We're just different, her and me. Sure I need a dancer but I've never worked with a lion before! I wouldn't begin to know how to relate to something so different. Kyle begins to sing again. Kyle (CON'T) It's not my style - to stir things up (PAUSE) So maybe it is...but not this time. This time it's different. We're talking about something so ingrained in all of us that it just isn't possible to be the first to change. It's not the time, it's not the place you understand? We're just too different. Turns back to Denny and Amy. Kyle (CON'T) Who are you and what do you want!
ACT
ONE Scene
3 INT. Kyle'S OFFICE - SAME Kyle is sitting at a big desk across from Denny and Amy. He is aloft, barely paying attention; however, sweat is beading from his brow to indicate that he is really interested. Kyle So what do you kiddies want from ol' Kyle? DENNY We wanna be stars Kyle. AMY And you can make it happen. Denny pulls out a copy of Daily Variety. DENNY We read that you were the hottest agent in Holly "Wood" Grove...a real starmaker. AMY We also read that you wanted to expand your cliental. Does that include humans? Kyle It could. I have nothing against humans. AMY And just what is it you have against lions? DENNY Amy that's none of our business. Kyle He's quite right Amy...that is none of your business, besides, it isn't something you could possibly understand. It's the whole Lion and Lamb concept. We've never gotten along...our parents hated each other, our grandparents hated each other...it's been going on for generations. AMY But how did it start? Denny speaks through clenched teeth. DENNY Amy! Wouldn't you rather audition for Mr. Lamb? Kyle No, no my boy...It's better she knows. Better she knows so as not to get mixed up with their kind. Who knows how it started young lady...who cares...all you need to know is that lions are inferior. Kyle gets up, walks around to the backs of their chairs and puts his arms around them, practically lifting them up and ushering them to the door. Kyle (CON'T) Now about this audition...you talk to Mick...he'll set it up. EXT. RECEPTION AREA - CONTINUOUS Denny and Amy stumble as they are practically thrown out of Kyle's office. Kyle Mick, set up an audition for these kids. Kyle re-enters his office and slams his door. Mick looks surprised, pauses and begins leafing through an appointment book. MICK I'm impressed...he must like you. AMY Like us? DENNY How does he treat people he dislikes? MICK You don't want to know. (PAUSE) Do you have a tape? Amy hands him a tape. MICK (CON'T) How does tomorrow afternoon sound?

TWO Scene
1 EXT. RIVER OF DREAMS - A LITTLE LATER Down the river, but still in view of Kyle's office and Riverview Heights, Suzy is sitting on a rock, looking at her reflection in a relatively calm pool of the river. Suzy (SINGING)
I wanna be a star
And he can make it happen.

If he'd just look at me. Behind a tree, Denny and Amy are watching. They shrink back and sit down. BEHIND TREE: AMY Maybe we can help her? DENNY Amy. AMY Maybe we can. DENNY Maybe we should mind our own business. AMY What good has ever come out of minding our owns business? How can we ever solve anything if we mind our own business? DENNY How can we solve anything...we're kids? AMY Nice attitude. DENNY We should be concentrating on
our audition. AMY I know a way we can do both. ACT
TWO Scene 2 INT. Kyle'S OFFICE - LATER Kyle is talking on the phone. Mick enters. Kyle He's a perfect fit...I'll send him right over. Kyle hangs up. Mick looks timid. Kyle (CON'T) What now? MICK Kramer wants to test a lion. Kyle Then Kramer can go to another agent. MICK Your clients are second to none. He says the first time he's willing to make the stretch...he wants it to come from you. Kyle Well that's going to be next to impossible...since I don't do lions. MICK Just consider it Mr. Lamb...the world is changing...it could be profitable. Kyle It's not my idea to change the world. Kramer wants a lion he can get her somewhere else!
ACT TWO Scene 3 EXT. RIVER OF DREAMS - A LITTLE LATER Suzy is still staring at the water on the banks of the River of Dreams. Denny and Amy approach. Suzy does not look up. AMY Excuse me, Ms. Lion, but I think we can help you. Suzy How can you help me, you don't even know me? DENNY We know that Kyle the Lamb won't represent you because you're a lion. AMY And that's not right so we want to help. DENNY We know what it's like to not be accepted. Suzy How do you know...you're human. AMY Do you know much about humans, Miss Lion? Suzy I know that if I was human Kyle the Lion would represent me. DENNY Humans have their troubles too. Did you know that not more that 30 years ago my people couldn't drink out of the same fountains as white people, we had to go to different schools and ride in the back of busses. Suzy But you're human...that's all that matters. You're human and that carries enough privilege to get in front of Kyle Lamb. It's hopeless for me. AMY If we thought that way...nobody'd be anywhere. Suzy Lambs would. Lambs rule this town. AMY We can show them Ms. Lion. Suzy Please call me Suzy. AMY We can show them Suzy. Here's what we need to do. ACT TWO Scene 3 EXT. GATE TO RIVERVIEW HEIGHTS - A LITTLE LATER Suzy, Denny, Amy and Beeper are talking under the sign to Riverview Heights. AMY Suzy says you know this place. BEEPER Know it? I own this town. DENNY You secretly a lamb? BEEPER What? DENNY Suzy here's under the impression that the only way to get anywhere in this town, or at least with Kyle the Lamb, is to be a lamb. Suzy Common knowledge. BEEPER Sounds about right. AMY Is this Kramer a Lamb? BEEPER Yep...a little more progressive than ol' Kyle, but still a Lamb. DENNY You can get to him? BEEPER Just leave it to Beeper. Suzy You really think it'll work? AMY Not a doubt in my mind. DENNY PUTS THE INVITATION IN BEEPER'S CLAW. DENNY He's got to get this today, our audition is tomorrow. AMY Now for part two. ACT TWO Scene 4 EXT.
GRANGER'S RESTAURANT - A LITTLE LATER Granger's
restaurant is an outside cafe in Riverview Heights. Kyle is eating a grass salad. Suzy, Denny and Amy are hiding behind a shrub. They watch Kyle for a moment. Denny looks at the other. Amy gives him an encouraging smile. Suzy crosses her fingers. Denny approaches. DENNY Excuse me Mr. Lamb. Kyle Sonny, my boy! DENNY Denny. Kyle Whatever. What can I do for you? DENNY May I sit down? Kyle Of course, but make it quick. I have a meeting in 10. Kyle takes a drink of his water. Kyle (CON'T) Loved your tape. You two perform that well at your audition and I'll take you to the big time. DENNY That's what I want to talk to you about. Kyle Is there a problem? DENNY It's Amy. I don't think I can work with her anymore. Kyle drops his fork. Kyle Come now my boy, you two are potentially worth millions. DENNY I know but we're...we're just ...we're just different. Kyle Of course you're different...it's the best part of the act. Different sells...different adds spice. DENNY Too different...in here. Denny touches his chest. DENNY (CON'T) And out here. Denny indicates his skin. DENNY (CON'T) I'll be frank Mr. Lamb. Amy's a white girl. I'm a black guy. That's always bothered me. I just never realized how much. Kyle You're, what, ten, eleven? DENNY Ten. Kyle How can that bother you. You're both human...that's all that matters. Kyle stands. Denny stands after him. Kyle (CON'T) Don't throw away the brass ring, my boy. I'll see you tomorrow at two. DENNY Two-thirty. Kyle Right. You have a shot to be represented by the best. Don't blow it. Kyle walks off. Suzy and Amy join him. Denny
whips out a tape recorder and rewinds it a little. Kyle (ON RECORDER) Different sells. Different adds spice. AMY I think that'll work quite nicely.
ACT
THREE Scene
1 EXT. HOLLY "WOOD" GROVE - NEXT DAY The "Holly "Wood" Grove" side of the Riverview Heights sign. There is a platform stage set up under the trees. People are starting to gather. Beeper is circling the air. He flies high above the trees. ABOVE TREES, NEAR Kyle'S OFFICE: Looking down Beeper sees KRAMER and Kyle exiting Kyle's office and making their way towards the platform. Beeper flies back.
BACK TO SCENE: Beeper flies down onto the stage where Denny, Amy and Suzy are setting up. BEEPER Better be scarce Suzy...Kramer and Kyle are on the way. AMY Together? BEEPER They just left Kyle's office. Suzy I hope this works. DENNY I hope we're not busted. I wonder why they're together? BEEPER Probably had a meeting or something. Suzy SMILES AT DENNY AND AMY. Suzy I really appreciate this. You guys are going out on a limb. AMY Somebody's gotta take a stand or nothing'll ever change. Suzy You don't mind doing my song. AMY Not at all. We can do more than one. I just hope I don't mess up the words. Suzy I taped them to the floor board. On the stage, under the microphone are two pages of lyrics. Suzy (CON'T) Just lip them and I'll sing them. Denny puts his hands on Suzy's shoulders. DENNY It's going to be fine. ACT
THREE Scene
2 EXT. "HOLLY "WOOD" GROVE" - A LITTLE LATER Denny is behind a keyboard. Amy is standing behind a microphone. Beeper is sitting on the keyboard. Amy
talks out of the corner of her mouth to Denny. AMY Kramer's not a lamb. DENNY I see that. AMY He's human. DENNY I see that too. BEEPER Humans are elite here. AMY This has got to stop. BEEPER So play already. Amy catches Kyle's eye and smiles. BACKSTAGE:
Suzy is watching from the wings.
She looks nervous and excited. She catches Denny's eye. BACK TO SCENE: Denny smiles and winks. BACKSTAGE: Suzy
winks back and crosses her fingers tightly. BACK TO SCENE: Denny plays, Amy LipSyncs, while Suzy like she has never sung before. Suzy (OFF) An ending... before beginning... Like a shot burst from the ski. No reason... Just madness... To quit and not ask why. Kyle is obviously enjoying the song. Kramer is taken aback. Beeper flies over the audience, lands on the stage and winks at Suzy. Suzy (CON'T)

Amy joins him. AMY Yes, that was just one...the invitation promised two. DENNY You've got to let us do the other. Kyle Don't need two. Mick, sign 'um. Kyle begins to rush away. Kyle (CON'T) We'll work out the details later kids. I'm a very busy man...Time is money. Kyle turns. Kyle (CON'T) Come'on Kramer. Let's talk money. DENNY Wait! Kyle and Kramer turns. DENNY (CON'T) Was it our look, our sound or her voice? Kyle What does it matter? AMY Please? Kyle The look is fine, the sound...superb, but that voice...that voice...like the song of an angel...simply mesmerizing. DENNY Mr. Lamb...meet your angel. Denny throws his arm out to present Suzy. Suzy comes out from the wings with a bow. Kramer smiles smugly. Kyle I don't understand. AMY Let's just say my voice has never reached heaven. Kyle That was you? Suzy That would be me. Kyle looks at Suzy, then to Denny and Amy, then to Kramer. Kyle Let's go. AMY Go? You can't go. DENNY Yeah, what about Suzy? Kyle I have things to do. Come on Kramer. KRAMER Len, it's perfect. I need a Lion and she needs an agent! Kyle Please, tell me how that's perfect? Kyle throws up his hands. Denny nudges Suzy. DENNY Mesmerize him. Suzy What? AMY Music tames the savage beast! It's one thing we can all relate too. Tame that beast. Suzy clears her throat and breaks into song. Suzy

Please listen to the boys and girls. Suzy points to Denny and Amy. The other kids, human, lion and lambs, in the audience gather around. Suzy focuses her attention on the children, ignoring Kyle -- thus commanding his attention.
Now...listen to us boys and girls. Suzy (CON'T SINGING)

And we don't know
That we'll understand more when we grow.
But I know now...
What you should learn
Please listen while we take our turn.

Now listen to us boys and girls. Kyle approaches Suzy, the others clear the way. Kyle barely looks at her. Kyle Be in my office at three Miss Lamb. Come on Kramer. Kramer winks at Suzy as he follows Kyle. Suzy, Denny and Amy hug and celebrate as all join in song. Suzy
Kyle is fuzzy

Denny has brown eyes
Suzy has a tail.
