The Process

1. Test your knowledge of rainforest by taking the Comprehension Quiz that goes with the story "Protecting Wildlife" in your reader.

2. Read the positions of the four people who are directly effected by the destruction of the rainforest -- Roles.

3. You will be assigned to one person.  If you have a choice -- please ask your teacher.

4. Use the resources (under the person you are assigned) to find as much information as you can to support the point of view of the person you are representing in the debate.

5. Print out a hard copy of the Note-taking Worksheet.

6. Use the worksheet to help you prepare for the debate.

7. When all of the groups have completed the position statement, it is time to have a public hearing. Each group will  have time to present their arguments and any counter plans.  When all groups have finished their presentations, the class should try to reach consensus as to what the fate will be for the Amazon in the 21st Century.
